Using Tag Manager tags

If you are looking to use Tag Manager tags as part of your Tag Manager setup, these are configured within the Tag Manager platform. Choosing to use tags such as Analytics or Ads, may impact these services if you have them connected in Site Kit. Connecting Analytics or Ads via tags will mean missing out on added custom dimensions added by Site Kit if the Site Kit gtag is disabled.

Site Kit will let you know if you already have code placed for another Google service on your site when trying to connect that same service via Site Kit.

Tag Manager container already placed

It is recommended to connect other services such as Analytics and Ads via Site Kit and not using Tag Manager tags as you won’t gain the full benefits of what Site Kit can offer for these modules if you are using Tag Manager tags.

FAQs

Should I connect my Google Analytics account and property with Tag Manager or Site Kit?
While you can connect your Analytics using tags from the Tag Manager platform, we recommend using the Site Kit Analytics module instead. This will ensure Site Kit can create custom dimensions where applicable, and it will also ensure that the settings you apply within Site Kit for Google Analytics are applied.

How do I disconnect the Tag Manager module in Site Kit?
You can disconnect the Tag Manager module in Site Kit by going to Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Edit > Disconnect Tag Manager from Site Kit.
